About Neurosis

Formed in Oakland, California, in 1985, Neurosis originated as a hardcore punk band, debuting with the 1987 album Pain of Mind. Over the following decades, the group underwent a significant stylistic evolution, moving away from their initial punk roots toward a dense, experimental sound characterized as atmospheric sludge and post-metal. Incorporating elements of doom metal, industrial, and dark ambient music, the band became a foundational influence on the development of these genres. Their discography reflects a transition from raw, rapid-fire hardcore to expansive, heavy compositions. The band has maintained a long-standing presence in the underground scene, eventually establishing their own label, Neurot Recordings, to facilitate their creative output.
