About Lord Mantis

Lord Mantis is a blackened sludge metal band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 2005. Founded by drummer Bill Bumgardner and guitarist Greg Gomer, the group established a reputation for a nihilistic, abrasive sound that blends sludge metal with black metal elements and noise. Their 2009 debut full-length album, Spawning the Nephilim, released via Seventh Rule Recordings, showcased their aggressive approach and dark thematic focus on occultism and depravity. Throughout their career, the band has featured various members, including vocalist and bassist Charlie Fell and guitarist Andrew Markuszewski. The group's history has been marked by multiple periods of activity and lineup changes, with their status remaining a subject of internal dispute in recent years.
