Formed in Joensuu, Finland, in 2008, Claws is a death metal project founded by multi-instrumentalist Lasse Pyykkö. The band operates as a focused entity, delivering a classic death metal sound often compared to early Finnish and Swedish acts. Following the release of the 2009 EP The Funeral Barge, the band issued their debut full-length album, Absorbed in the Nethervoid, later that same year. The project has maintained a consistent stylistic approach, exploring lyrical themes centered on black magic, demons, and death. Claws has continued to operate through various underground labels, including Doomentia Records and Horror Pain Gore Death Productions, solidifying its place within the Finnish extreme metal scene.
