About Ulver
Formed in Oslo, Norway, in 1993 by vocalist Kristoffer Rygg, Ulver is a musical collective known for its significant stylistic shifts. While the band later transitioned into experimental, electronic, and avant-garde territories, their early output is rooted in black and folk metal. Their 1995 debut, Bergtatt, serves as a primary example of this initial period, blending black metal aesthetics with folklore-inspired themes and archaic Dano-Norwegian lyrics. The album explores narratives of Norse legend, specifically focusing on the abduction of maidens by underworld entities. Following this release, the band continued to diverge from traditional metal structures, establishing a long-standing reputation for musical unpredictability.
