Formed in 1990 by guitarist Fredrik Söderberg in Linköping, Sweden, Dawn is an extreme metal band that evolved from early death metal roots into a distinct melodic black metal sound. The band gained significant recognition for their atmospheric and intense compositions, most notably on their 1998 masterpiece, Slaughtersun (Crown of the Triarchy). Their discography also includes the 1994 debut Nær sólen gar niþer for evogher and the 1996 EP Sorgh på svarte vingar fløgh. Characterized by a balance of breakneck speed and mid-paced melody, Dawn remains a respected name within the Swedish black-death metal scene, having navigated various lineup changes and periods of inactivity since their inception.
