About Rites of Thy Degringolade

Formed in Edmonton, Canada, in 1997, Rites of Thy Degringolade is a black and death metal project founded by Paulus Kressman. Initially a solo endeavor, the band developed a distinct, percussion-centric sound characterized by controlled chaos. Following the release of three full-length albums between 2000 and 2005, the project entered a decade-long hiatus. Kressman resurrected the band in 2015, reuniting with guitarist J. Wroth and adding new members to expand the lineup. This iteration produced the 2015 full-length Totality and the 2018 album The Blade Philosophical. The band’s work explores themes of violence and occultism, maintaining a technical and abrasive approach to extreme metal.
