Obituary

Formed in Tampa, Florida, in 1984, Obituary stands as a foundational pillar of the death metal genre. Originally established as Executioner, the band transitioned through the name Xecutioner before settling on Obituary in 1988. Renowned for their signature groove-laden riffs, atmospheric heaviness, and John Tardy’s distinct guttural vocals, they played a pivotal role in defining the Florida death metal movement. Following a hiatus between 1997 and 2003, the group resumed their career and remains active today. Their extensive catalog includes the 2013 release, The Complete Roadrunner Collection 1989-2005, which documents their formative years. With the Tardy brothers and guitarist Trevor Peres serving as the core constants, the band continues to be recognized as one of the most successful and influential acts in extreme metal history.
