Band Profile
Sarcófago
Formed in 1985 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Sarcófago was an extreme metal band that navigated the intersections of black, thrash, and death metal. Led by vocalist Wagner Lamounier and bassist Geraldo Minelli, the group emerged as a prominent act within the Brazilian metal scene. Their early work, including the 1987 debut I.N.R.I., featured a raw, lo-fi aesthetic that became associated with the first wave of black metal. By the release of 1991's The Laws of Scourge, the band transitioned toward a more proficient death and thrash metal sound, shifting their lyrical themes away from Satanism toward more realistic subject matter. Sarcófago remained active until 2000, eventually incorporating drum machines into their later studio recordings.
