Kathaaria

Formed in 1999 in Marl, Germany, Kathaaria was a black metal duo consisting of Jhn and Opolus. The band operated outside of conventional genre trends, exploring themes of misanthropy, philosophy, and negativity. Their debut full-length, The Complex Void of Negativity, was released in 2008 through End All Life Productions, establishing a sound characterized by adventurous, layered riffing and a refusal to adhere to standard black metal tropes. Following a fourteen-year hiatus, the duo returned in 2022 with their sophomore album, To Be Shunned by All...As Centres of Pestilence, which incorporated elements of death and doom metal into their established avant-garde framework. Kathaaria officially split up in 2022, leaving behind a legacy of highly personal, unconventional extreme metal.
