Afterbirth

Formed in 1993 on Long Island, New York, Afterbirth is a progressive brutal death metal band. After an initial period of activity ending in 1995, the group reunited in 2013. While early material focused on gore and death themes, their later work incorporates science fiction and abstract concepts. The band's sound is characterized by a blend of technical, brutal death metal structures, complex rhythms, and atmospheric elements, including the use of synths and keyboards. The current lineup features vocalist Will Smith, guitarist Cody Drasser, bassist Dave Case, and drummer Keith Harris. Their 2023 full-length release, In But Not Of, continues their evolution toward a more experimental and layered sonic identity.
