Ulcerate

Formed in 2000 in Auckland, New Zealand, by guitarist Michael Hoggard and drummer Jamie Saint Merat, Ulcerate is an extreme metal band known for a technical and avant-garde approach to death metal. Their sound is characterized by complex song structures, dissonant riffing, and atmospheric depth. The band maintains a DIY ethos, with members often handling production, recording, and visual design. The current lineup includes vocalist and bassist Paul Kelland alongside the founding duo. Their discography includes the 2020 release Stare into Death and Be Still and the 2024 album Cutting the Throat of God, both of which continue the band's exploration of dark, unconventional death metal.
