Band Profile

Carcass

Formed in Liverpool in 1985, Carcass are seminal figures in extreme metal, recognized as pioneers of both grindcore and melodic death metal. Initially emerging from the goregrind scene with a brutal, technically demanding sound, the band evolved through the raw, complex arrangements of 1991's Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious before defining the melodic death metal template with 1993's Heartwork. Following a hiatus after 1996's Swansong, the group reunited in 2007. Their later output, including the 2014 EP Surgical Remission / Surplus Steel, maintains their legacy of blending aggressive, riff-driven death metal with technical precision. Their lyrical themes have historically spanned pathology, medical science, and societal critique, cementing their status as one of the most influential acts in the genre's history.
