Skaphos

Formed in Lyon, France, in 2018, Skaphos is a blackened death metal band known for its abyssal, maritime-themed soundscapes. The quartet, consisting of Stéphan Petitjean, Jérémy Tronyo, Théo Langlois, and Nathan Faure, merges the dissonant textures of black metal with the crushing intensity of death metal. Following their earlier releases, Bathyscaphe (2020), Thooï (2022), and Cult of Uzura (2025), the band issued The Descent in 2026. This record features re-imagined material from their initial full-length albums, showcasing a more mature and ritualistic approach to their established dark, Lovecraftian aesthetic. The band is recognized for its immersive live performances and consistent exploration of deep-sea horror themes.
