Pestilence

Formed in Enschede, Netherlands, in 1986, Pestilence is a pioneering force in extreme metal. Initially emerging as a thrash metal act, the band transitioned into death metal with their 1989 release, Consuming Impulse, and later gained recognition for incorporating progressive, jazz, and fusion elements into their sound. Led by constant member Patrick Mameli, the group has navigated several periods of activity and hiatus since their inception. Their discography explores themes ranging from anti-religion and metaphysics to science fiction and horror. In 2024, the band released Levels of Perception, a collection featuring re-recorded material. Throughout their career, Pestilence has remained a significant influence on the evolution of death metal, consistently pushing the boundaries of the genre's technical and stylistic conventions.
