Band Profile

Broken Hope

Formed in Chicago in 1988, Broken Hope is a foundational American death metal band known for their mid-paced brutality and low-pitched growls. The group gained notoriety for recording their 1991 debut, Swamped in Gore, as the first death metal album produced entirely in a digital format. Throughout the 1990s, the band established a significant presence in the extreme metal scene, releasing influential records such as The Bowels of Repugnance (1993), Repulsive Conception (1995), and Loathing (1997) through Metal Blade Records. Their discography, which also includes the 1999 release Grotesque Blessings and the 2013 comeback Omen of Disease, explores themes of gore, death, and sickness. After an initial hiatus, the band resumed activity in 2012, continuing their legacy in the death metal underground.
